A round-up of the buzziest places serving the City of Light’s finest drinks.

Whether you’re a Perth local looking for a new haunt, or planning an upcoming holiday to WA, there’s no shortage of cool bars to discover in P-town – you just have to know where to look. From after-work knock-offs and fancy froths with friends to a pre-dinner aperitif before a theatre show, choose your own drink adventure and enjoy the best venues Perth has to offer.

Take Mechanics Institute, a hidden rooftop bar in Northbridge where you can hear the party from the alleyway on weekends. It’s a casual, high-energy vibe, but the cocktails are truly top-notch – and just as crowd-pleasing as the classic soundtrack you can’t help but sing along to.

You could also pop into Strange Company: set in a building that was once a former wetsuit factory, this sleek bar and restaurant is everything you could ask for in a neighbourhood haunt (and open seven days a week, ’til late). The cocktails are both imaginative and clever. We’re fans of the Sardinian Drifter, which combines chamomile-infused sake and peach.

Descend the stairs of Foxtrot Unicorn and you’ll be met with a dimly lit basement bar with no shortage of cosy corners and nooks for settling in. An eclectic mix of framed posters, vintage beer cans and a piano by the entrance (for good measure) makes it homey – the marvellous cocktails make it a must-visit. For a taste of Foxtrot Unicorn at home, try mixing up head bartender Shirley Yeung’s Pink Paradise or Salted Chocolate Oldie.

These are just a taste of the best bars in Perth, so add them to your (ever-growing) list and get ready to wet your whistle this weekend if you’re out and about in WA.
