Nothing beats a delicious punch at a summer party – especially one this easy.

About the cocktail

  • If there’s one thing that sets a party up right, it’s punch. It’s a sign the host knows what they’re doing, and they’ve thought about the details. But if you’re the one cast in that role, actually making punch can be annoying (and spenny). So, here’s a recipe that’s both stupidly delicious and dead easy to pull off.
  • All it takes is a bottle of cheap but decent sparkling wine, lemonade, soda water and a bottle of our Yuzu & Blood Orange Sour Cocktail Mixer. A collab between Dan’s Daily (yours truly) and Mr. Consistent, this baby brings the flavour in spades and makes whipping up tasty cocktails easy-peasy yuzu-squeezy. It’ll take only take you a minute or two, leaving you plenty of time to finish the rest of your party prep – or squeeze in another ep of Alone before your mates arrive.
  • The mixer brings zesty yuzu and tangy blood orange, balanced by unique flavours like pineapple, rooibos tea and rosewater. The sparkling, soda water and lemonade add the requisite bubbles you expect in a great punch. It’s basically golden hour, in a glass.

Ingredients

  • Plenty of ice

  • 750mL (one bottle) Dan’s Daily x Mr. Consistent Yuzu & Blood Orange Sour cocktail mixer
  • 750mL (one bottle) sparkling white wine
  • 375mL soda water
  • 375mL lemonade
  • Glass: punch bowl or jug to mix, individual glasses to serve
  • Garnish: grapefruit and orange slices

Method

  1. Fill a punch bowl with several scoops of cubed ice (if you’re prepping ahead of time, leave it out and add the ice just before serving)

  2. Give that bottle of Yuzu & Blood Orange Sour mixer a good shake – it’s made with all fresh ingredients
  3. Pour in two parts of the mixer – for this recipe, we’re using a whole bottle, which is 750mL
  4. Add two parts sparkling wine (again, 750mL in this case)
  5. Add one part (375mL) each of soda water and lemonade
  6. Gently stir to mix the ingredients
  7. Garnish with slices of fresh grapefruit and orange
  8. To serve, ladle into individual glasses

Dan’s top tips

  • This punch is impossible to mess up. The recipe above uses a whole bottle of the Yuzu & Blood Orange Sour cocktail mixer to make 10 individual serves of punch, but you could just as easily decrease or increase the ingredients to make however much you need. Just stick to the ratio of two parts each of mixer and sparkling, one part each of soda water and lemonade.
  • The beauty of punch is how good it looks on the table. If you don’t have a punch bowl, there are always plenty of cool vintage ones at your local op-shop, or just use a big glass mixing bowl in a pinch. Pop a ladle and individual glasses beside it so your guests can serve themselves.
  • When it comes to ice, you’ll want plenty of it in here, but if you’re not serving the punch straight away, wait to add the ice until just before – otherwise it’ll dilute the cocktail too much. You don’t want those flavours to lose their oomph.
  • And if you haven’t tried it yet, don’t forget to whip up the Dan’s Daily x Mr. Consistent Yuzu & Blood Orange Sour as a Classic Sour (with just about any spirit) and a G&T
