Dan Murphy’s enjoys a longstanding relationship with this iconic Australian family. With their talent and pioneering spirit, Taylors has become the world’s most awarded winery.

When Dan Murphy attended the opening of Taylors back in 1975, he was so impressed that he offered to buy their entire first vintage. While Bill Taylor politely declined, one thing was clear – some future legends had just entered the industry.

Their journey started in 1969, when Bill Taylor senior and his sons discovered an empty stretch of land on the banks of the Wakefield River. They knew they’d found the perfect site for their Clare Valley vineyard.

Although fortified wines were more popular at the time, they decided to plant cabernet and shiraz vines, spurred on by their passion for European wines (a passion shared by Dan Murphy).

Their skills as winemakers quickly became apparent. After entering their first vintage wine shows during 1975, they won countless accolades, including the coveted Montgomery Trophy for Best Red Wine at the Royal Adelaide Show.

PIONEERING AUSTRALIAN WINE

Discover Taylors Wines

Today, Taylors continues to prove it’s a pioneer in the Australian winemaking industry. In 1999, the family, along with a small group of other Clare Valley winemakers, decided to bottle their 2000 vintage rieslings under a screwcap to combat cork taint. It was a decision that was unheard of at the time, but it sparked a worldwide trend that changed wine bottling forever. In 2015, under the leadership of director Mitchell Taylor, the winery launched the first temperature sensor label.
