Sweet, spiced and perfect for your long, long weekend.
Who doesn’t love a long weekend? Getting more time to hang with family and friends is right up our alley, but so is a little indulgence. And when it comes to Easter, great people, food and drinks – and a truckload of sweet treats – go hand in hand. But while everyone else is fighting over the Cadbury Creme Eggs (honestly, they can have them), we’ll be away from the chaos, quietly mixing up a few tasty cocktails to share around.
If this sounds like your kind of Easter long weekend, we’ve rounded up some of the best cocktails to serve up for the occasion. We’ve picked out some of our favourite chocolatey recipes and dessert-style drinks, as well as a couple of others that we think are bang-on for the occasion. So, let everyone else prep the roast, set the table and hide the eggs because, this year, you’re on cocktail duty. Just don’t let anyone else know how easy they are to make.
The Easter bunny likes carrots, so we’re rolling with this cocktail that’s inspired by carrot cake. We’ve captured all those trademark warm, spiced flavours and sweetness, but we’ve made it creamy, nutty and fresh in cocktail form. In short, it’s delish. Frangelico, vanilla liqueur and Cognac do the heavy lifting, while carrot juice, cream and golden syrup bring it all together. And that finishing touch of crushed walnuts on the ice cube? Seriously sophisticated.
We’re big fans of Kayla Saito’s Spiced White Negroni, and not just because it’s topped with a big shard of white chocolate. Cooled chai tea brings spice and Easter bun-like flavours, while spiced gin, amaro and Lillet Blanc deliver a tasty twist on the traditional Negroni. It’s a little honeyed and a lot spiced, and it’s perfect for batching and freezing ahead of time. Feel free to riff on the chocolate shard, too – big pieces of Easter eggs are highly recommended.
Here’s another post-meal-only cocktail, but it’s a showstopper that totally doubles as dessert. Think of it as a drinkable cinnamon doughnut for adults. Sold? All you need to do is shake up spiced rum together with vanilla liqueur, chocolate liqueur, cream and bitters, and please note the cinnamon-sugar glass rim is non-negotiable. Doughnuts are an Easter tradition in parts of Europe, and we think this cocktail might just work its way into your annual repertoire, too.
