CHARDONNAY

Chardonnay is still the world’s most popular white wine and, thanks to infinite variations in growing conditions and winemaking choices, there are thousands of ways to experience it. Some people love lean, unoaked styles with fruit flavours, others are devotees of creamy, buttery chardonnays with toast and spice from oak, and there are plenty of options in between.

The overworked styles that rose to fame in the 1980s may have put some people off chardonnay, but we encourage everyone to revisit the varietal, as the best way to get to know modern chardonnay is to try it for yourself. Chardonnay

Fruit flavours in chardonnay can range from citrus and orchard fruits to floral and tropical characters.

Most imagine these wines are all creamy, but there are definitely some steely and crisp examples. Look for interesting oak influence characters – anything from vanilla and spice, through to cashews and toast.
