Yep, we’re on the Cyber Week train too, and there’s never been a better time to stock your bar cart before the holidays.

1. Castelnau Champagne Brut Reserve

Castelnau isn’t a name super well-known in a world where some Champagne houses have marketing budgets the size of a small nation’s GDP, so consider this the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with an undiscovered gem of the famed French region and one of our absolute favourites. The maison’s classic Brut Reserve is known among enthusiasts for its extensive lees ageing (leaving the wine in contact with dead yeast cells – a good thing, we promise), rounding out the long, fresh acidity with creamy, toasty flavours of praline, gingerbread, white peach and floral herbs. Master of Wine Andrew Caillard awarded it a whopping 94 points. Is there a bottle more perfect to pop over the holidays? We don’t think so.

2. Luxardo Bitter Rosso

If you’re expecting to make a tonne of Negronis during your entertaining exploits this summer, look no further than the Luxardo Bitter Rosso. An alternative to Campari that’s every bit as delicious in the iconic cocktail, Luxardo’s centuries-old bitter rosso recipe dials up the bitter herbs and wormwood to create something entirely distinctive (and super affordable).

3. Leo Buring Leonay Riesling 2021

Riesling has a hard-earned reputation as one of the most diverse grapes out there. And while it’s mostly associated with bone-dry whites and ultra-sweet dessert wines, there’s a wonderful middle ground where rieslings offer the fruity complexity to pair with just about any picnic. Leo Buring’s Leonay is a prime example from one of the true greats of Australian riesling, light in body and unmistakably elegant. Made from the top pick of the year’s grapes, this baby will taste excellent now or cellar brilliantly for many years to come.

4. Perro De San Juan Espadin Blue Label Mezcal

Tequila’s smoky sibling, mezcal, is becoming more and more sought-after by a growing community of aficionados and amateur mixologists alike. Perro De San Juan Espadin’s Blue Label is an outstanding entry into this world if you (or someone you know) is looking to up their game: an unaged mezcal that balances the spirit’s signature smokiness with flavours that range from the fruity to the herbaceous for a truly smooth experience. This artisanal mezcal is also 100% Mexican, fermented in the traditional methods in Oaxaca (the home of mezcal).

5. Glenfiddich Experiment 02 Project XX Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenfiddich is one of the most common Scotches you’ll see in bars around the world, but the distillery’s Experimental Project XX line is where things really get fun for fans of single malt. Take Experiment 02, in which malt master Brian Kinsman invited 20 whisky experts from around the world to select their favourite whisky from the thousands of stacked casks at the Glenfiddich distillery. Among the choices were 17 bourbon barrels, two sherry butts and one port pipe, all aged between eight and 20 years old. These were then expertly blended by Brian, with the result being smooth lashings of summer fruit (think pear, plums and gooseberries), peppery oak spice and sweet toffee flavours – plus, being non-chill filtered adds real body to this excellent dram. A unique and limited-edition gift ideal for the whisky-enthusiast in your life.

6. Lange Estate Providence Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

One of the biggest, boldest and most refined cab sauvs you’ll get for the price, Lange Estate’s Providence Road is an exceptional value proposition made all the sweeter thanks to a little Black Friday magic. Inky black in colour and replete with the hallmarks of Aussie cab sauv (hefty flavours of dark fruit and chocolate, sturdy tannins, and an almost olive-like savoury finish), Wine Orbit’s Sam Kim scored it at a mega 95 points. It’s a smashing drink now, but will get even better over the next five or six years with cellaring. Either way, there’s never been a better time to stock up.
