Want a steak with your drink? Here’s where you should go

Numbers don't lie; Aussies are eating less steak. This is down to a few factors (including, but not limited to, nutritional and environmental awareness), but most evidence points towards our collective cringe for meat bros. Sorry, Liver King.

However, our hunger for meat didn’t subside; we just collectively decided that steak was more of an ‘event’ food. A beautiful one-off, prepared by a chef – cut beautifully, cooked to taste, served with a sauce or an accompaniment as fine as the fillet itself. An experience to save up for and to savour. 

Big Italian bistecca, home-grown Aussie scotch fillets, or marbled melt-in-the-mouth wagyu are weekly or bi-weekly treats that are so delicious, they’ve pushed all memory of at-home and overcooked steaks from our psyche (why suffer through a badly cooked steak?). In that spirit, there are fabulous steak joints around every corner in Australia. You could throw a pebble down the road of any major city and hit three. What’s harder is finding a bar, watering hole, or drinks-focused restaurant that does a bang-up steak.
