Deep, almost impenetrable ruby colour to a purple rim. Dark berry, liquorice and boudin noir on the nose. A big and weighty red—the dark fruit intensity fills the palate but is balanced by an equally robust tannin structure. Good length and those grainy tannins linger long. Great value and will age well. I'd suggest a good steak served alongside would be a formidable combination SN.

90/10% montepulciano/durif; Koonunga Hill; hand-picked; wild fermented; matured 16 months in 3 yo French oak hogheads. A dose of durif serves to make montepulciano more 'Barossan', deepening its coour and black-fruit mood. A core of exotic spice and crunchy red berry fuits upholds its varietal identity, culminating in a display of savoury, medium-grained tannins on a finish of medium persistence. A characterful quaffer. TS.
