Australia's most prolific wine reviewer

There are prolific wine writers and then there's Huon Hooke. Having amassed a huge back catalogue of books, articles, reviews and magazine pieces over the past 30 years, he has cemented himself as an integral part of the Australian wine press stalwart.

As well as contributing to Decanter and Gourmet Traveller, he has written a weekly column for the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Living since 1987, and during that time managed to produce an incomprehensible number of reviews of individual wines: 30,000 notes to date and still counting.

Hooke is renowned for first tasting wines 'blind'; he prefers to not allow any personal bias or preconceptions cloud his initial reaction to a new wine, then will often go back and taste again after learning it's identity

Huon is also judge of the Australian Winemaker of the Year, Chair of the Vin de Champagne Awards, and judges various other wine competitions across the globe.

Named Australian Wine Communicator of the Year in 2008, he is perhaps best known for his contributions to the Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide, having spent fourteen years as the co-author.

A Roseworthy graduate and qualified journalist, Hooke is the definition of a wine professional; whether he's writing, judging, tasting or teaching, it's always about the wine.

Huon Hooke writes and reviews for The Real Review, Sydney Morning Herald, Gourmet Traveller Wine, and other esteemed publications.
