XanaduReserve Margaret River Cabernet 2011
About this product
Xanadu was established by Dr John Lagan, an Irishman, who arrived in Margaret River in 1968 and was inspired by the pioneering spirit of the region. At the time, the potential of Margaret River as one of the world’s finest wine-producing regions was only just being considered. So less than a decade on, Dr Lagan, with his wife Eithne, established one of the region’s earlier vineyards, planting his first vines in 1977.
True to its poetic namesake, Xanadu is in an idyllic setting where the now 65 hectares of vines on the original estate flourish in the rich, free draining gravel soils of the Margaret River region. In this unique maritime climate enjoys an abundant supply of water and is sheltered by forests of magnificent marri trees.

In the most talented of hands, Margaret River cabernet is capable of grand intensity, delicate fragrance and dignified poise. The definition, depth and purity of fruit on display here are nothing short of astounding. Perfumed rose hip and violet aromas permeate from start to finish. The depth of crunchy black- and redcurrant fruit is magnificent, supported by notes of tobacco, cedar and dark chocolate. The palate is lively and poised, with vibrant acidity and fine-grained, textural tannins furnishing an incredible future. One of the best from Xanadu yet.

The wine is a 90/5/5% blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and malbec. Part was given extended maceration post-fermentation, and, once pressed, the wine spent 16 months in French oak (55% new). Has exceptional texture and structure thanks to super-normal tannins that are woven through the luxuriant cassis and plum fruit.
