Penfolds new release tastings have now been scheduled to August, and although 128 has already been in the market for five months, the additional time since its release has certainly helped it, now accurately displaying the black plum skin and cracked pepper definition that flatters Coonawarra shiraz. Its framed neatly in dark chocolate oak and finely textured yet confident tannins of seamlessly woven integration. An impressive release for Bin 128, with a strong future before it.

Medium deep colour. Fresh redcurrant, red plum, cassis and cola aromas with lifted earthy, sage notes. Supple sweet redcurrant, cola, herb flavours, fine-grained tannins and underlying savoury complexity. Builds up chocolaty firm at the finish with persistent buoyant fruit. Generous yet tactile wine with clear Coonawarra bloodlines. Drink now-2022+
