Australia's premier Master of Wine

The letters after Andrew Caillard's name place him in one of the world's most exclusive groups; those who have slaved tirelessly over textbook and spittoon to acquire the title "Master of Wine".

Since this prestigious London-based institute's inception in 1953, less than 400 applicants have passed the rigorous years of testing and earned the privilege to sign their name complete with the coveted "MW". Caillard has held the distinction since 1993.

An infectious passion for wine

He is one of Australia's leading authorities on all things wine, having been born and educated in England, before beginning his lifelong affinity for all aspects of the business in France, Germany, and Australia.

A graduate of Roseworthy (Australia's most respected wine school) and the co-founder of Langton's, the leading wine auction house in the country, Andrew has been involved in shaping Australia's fine wine agenda for over 25 years. Langton's Classification of Australian Wine, now in its 6th reincarnation, is regarded as an important reference for wine collectors and observers of the ultra-fine wine scene.

Andrew is a longstanding columnist and tasting panellist for Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. He chairs Shanghai's Wine 100 competition, judges at the Japan Wine Challenge and participates in the Adelaide Wine Show's provenance prize. He is also the author of the outstanding reference book Penfolds "The Rewards of Patience" now its seventh edition. His work as an author, writer and influencer was recognised in 2011 when he won the Australian Wine Communicator of the Year Award. Andrew also holds the rare distinction of being a 'Baron of the Barossa', a rare honour for a non-Barossan and further recognition of his involvement as a wine auctioneer and longstanding supporter of the region.

Andrew is the associate producer of the award winning feature documentary, Red Obsession; a movie that explores the economic shift in power from the west to the east though the prism of Bordeaux's wine trade with China.

Unashamedly outspoken about the future direction of Australian wine, Andrew is one of the industry's straight talkers. He is a true master of the oenological arts by deed and qualification.

Andrew Caillard MW is a member of Dan Murphy's Wine Panel and consultant fine wine principal.
