Blackcurrant, cedar, aniseed, subtle capsicum top note, earth – but perfumed and almost pretty to smell – not dank or weedy. Medium bodied, blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, light astringency and tough-ish tannin, but there’s a sweetness and claret-like charm here that gets it off the hook. Finish tails off a bit, but it’s also kind of minerally and satisfying. Has a good sense of definition and poise. And if it makes any sense at all, I prefer it to the 2010, though I’ve not scored it as highly.

Mid-crimson colour, then an attractive, well balanced bouquet and supple palate; juicy blackcurrant fruit has well-integrated oak and tannins in support, lengthening the finish and aftertaste. A classic medium-bodied style that will live in bottle for several decades.
