A little animale on on opening, then sweet and dandy. Beef stock, mint, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, dark cherry, blackberry - bottle age and barrel age complexity both doing their things. It''s medium bodied with firm, but silky tannin that shapes and controls the length of the palate - a smooth mesh of flavour and texture delivered with impeccable Old World manners. Long dry finish. Will live for years (cork permitting), but superb right now. A great vintage of a classic wine.

With extended barrel and bottle aging, even at a decade old the colour is still remarkably deep. With intense black fruits, paneforte, spice and tobacco aromas and rich smooth chocolaty tannins, this wine is simply superb.
