About this product
Having become an obvious choice for Hervé Dantan when he took over as Cellar Master in 2013, Le Blanc de Blancs brings together the finest Crus from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims in a subtle balance, where delicacy and finesse are underlined by a fresh, mineral finish. It is aged for at least 4 years in our cellars, to develop a subtle combination of complexity and vibrancy.

This is a new wine from this venerable Champagne house, made from 100% chardonnay and aged for longer than the other Lanson non-vintage wines.
It has a light to medium straw-yellow colour and a complex nutty bouquet, with lots of Champagne aldehydes plus dried flower and dried fruit aromas including dried apple, while the palate is tremendously attacking with bright acidity and penetrating citrus and almond-nougat flavours. Concentrated and driving, it last long on the palate, with a cleansing dry finish, enlivened by typically high acidity. A great food wine. - More about Tyson Stelzer

15 crus, 70% grand and premier crus; 2014 base; 40% reserve wines; aged 5 years on lees; 7g/L dosage; disgorged 01/2021; all on back label; a small proportion of reserve wines aged in large oak casks.
Lanson has a strong history with blanc de blancs in its Noble Cuvée (and Extra Age, released in 2010, though not continued), but this is the first at this tier. Herve Dantan has strategically utilised the Montagne de Reims (40%), and in particular the east-facing chardonnay crus of Villers-Marmery and Trépail alongside Vitry and Mongueux (10%) to bring richness, generosity and complexity to the delicacy and tension of the Côte des Blancs (50%, with a special emphasis on long-ageing crus like Le Mesnil-sur-Oger), particularly vital in a style driven by malic acidity (there is 20% malolactic fermentation here).
Chardonnay is in hot demand in Champagne, making the introduction of a blanc de blancs cuvée that will be a permanent fixture in the range extremely rare indeed. This one is both outstanding and enticingly priced. A core of lemon and grapefruit is accented by nasi pear, even subtle exoticism of star fruit and golden kiwi, even an exciting touch of white pepper. Five years lees age has brought brioche and vanilla custard character, while contributing wonderfully creamy texture that juxtaposes the chalk minerality of the Côte des Blancs and the vivacious charge of malic acidity. Dosage settles the balance impeccably and sets off a finish of grand line and length.
