Head into Dan’s to pick up one of these new drinks.
If you’ve spent the past few months with the same old drinks on rotation, the change of season is an excellent excuse to shake things up. So is the fact that we have a swag of great new drinks in stores right now at just $3 a pop. For only a few dollars, you can mix up your go-to beer with a fresh swap, or if you prefer a fruity refresher, you can pick up a premix that’s ready to crack and enjoy.
As everyone comes back out of hibernation, the following bevs are perfect for every occasion right now. These new drinks are going to work with everything from snacks and takeaway to barbecues and more, and we reckon they’re serious crowd pleasers, too.
1. Kirin Ichiban
Japanese lagers are distinctively dry and crisp, and Kirin Ichiban is a great example of how they can still pack in a whole lot of flavour. Smooth and rich, this is a full-bodied style, but still with that clean finish.
Stick with the Japanese theme and pair this with sushi and sashimi or a hearty ramen, but it will go just as well with a humble sausage in bread.
2. Coors Original
If you caught the American football bug with the big NFL game at the MCG, this is the beer for it. This classic American lager is smooth and full flavoured, with a subtle malt sweetness, toasted notes and a crisp finish.
This beer is crying out for a hot dog with the works – cheese, mustard, onions, relish… More is more.
3. Mountain Culture Juice Trip Blood Orange
A fruit-enhanced hazy? When celebrated brewery Mountain Culture turns their hand to something, you know it’s worth a go. Described as a “blood orange flavour bomb”, this is a sharp and juicy take on the pale ale.
That bright citrus kick will cut right through anything spicy or fried – or both – so take your pick. We’re putting this with a fried chicken burger loaded with hot sauce.
4. Miller Dry 3.5%
Not done with American brews? This mid-strength is a lower-carb pick that’s as smooth and crisp as you want from a lager. It’s all about easy drinking here, and we love a can that’s one standard drink, too.
You can’t go wrong with food for this beer as it suits just about everything. Go US-style with a burger and fries or sip it in the sunshine with friends over a big plate of cheeses.
5. White Claw Hard Seltzer Green Apple
This hugely popular seltzer brand keeps dropping fresh new flavours, and the Green Apple is the latest to win us over. Being a seltzer, it has just a hint of flavour, but it still manages to be juicy and fresh. It’s a bright and fizzy top pick for the season.
Throw a pork shoulder in the slow cooker (we’re not done with that appliance just yet) and get everyone over for pulled pork rolls with slaw (cheat with the salad bags from the supermarket). This seltzer is a perfect match.
6. Asahi Zeitaku Shibori Peach
For another delicate fruity number, this new vodka and soda mix has a good hit of peach flavour in this fresh, sparkling drink, and it’s low in sugar, too. A great choice for anyone who doesn’t love an overly sweet premix.
This is the sort of can that belongs in an esky, so it’s likely to show up all season – ideally alongside a spread of crisps, corn chips and a few spicy dips.
