A montage of scenes from films and drinks

We’re serving looks – and drinks – this spooky season.

It’s been a big year – Dua Lipa has already been on at least five documented holidays (one was her honeymoon), we lost an icon in Dolly Parton, and Euphoria left our screens, while the Tony and The Odyssey filled it (especially if you caught Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece at IMAX).

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi sent the internet into a spin with their Wuthering Heights press tour, with Margot giving us a masterclass in gothic method dressing, while Jacob took on the role of human umbrella. Bad Bunny made history at the Super Bowl, and Hilary Duff? She’s pretty much won the year.

So, if you’re on the hunt for a 2026-coded Halloween costume, we’ve taken inspiration from our favourite moments of the year and, of course, matched them to the perfect drink.

1. Dolly Parton + her sparkling wine

There are some people who you think will live forever, and Dolly Parton was one of them. The world lost a legend in August, so we think it’s only right to pay tribute to the Queen of Country by donning our best and biggest blonde wig, lots of lippy and eyeshadow, flares, denim, flannel – pick your Parton. Dolly leaves behind almost seven decades of music – she wrote over 3000 songs and sold more than 100 million records. She was a fierce philanthropist, and had starring roles in classic films like 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias.

In 2024, Dolly launched Dolly Parton Wines, so it’s only fair that the perfect drink for your costume is the Dolly Parton Sparkling NV, a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir. Like Dolly, it's bright, fun and brings people together, with fresh red fruits, a little toast and a smooth finish.

2. Euphoria’s snake + a Snake Eyes

We waited four years between seasons two and three of Euphoria, and, well, the reviews were mixed. But if you’re an OG fan, it’s likely you saw the season through. Spoilers ahead: Did the villain Nate deserve to be killed off in such a horrific way? The footnotes: a $1m debt with a scary loan shark, a finger and toe cut off as a warning before being buried alive in a makeshift coffin with an airhole, all to be bitten (multiple times) by a rattlesnake before he could be found. Jacob Elordi did say he thinks it’s a “cool way to go”. Dark.

If darkness is your vibe, you might like to dress up as the snake for Halloween. Your paired drink has to be the Snake Eyes cocktail – a salt rim, mezcal (Monte Alban, of course), lime, coconut water, sugar syrup and banana liqueur. It’s tropical, smoky, salty and zesty. Yum.

3. Odysseus + a Greek wine

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is already the frontrunner to take out Best Picture at the 99th Academy Awards. The film adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is the first feature film shot entirely on IMAX film cameras (around 600km of film was used). Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and a suite of other celebs make up just some of the cast. The three-hour masterpiece follows Odysseus after the Trojan War as he makes his 10-year journey home to Ithaca.

We reckon there’s bound to be an Odysseus costume or two this Halloween – a quick Google of ‘Odysseus costume’ will bring up plenty of options for a complete look. The film is largely set in ancient Greece, which means it’s only right to pair your Odysseus costume to Limnos Wines’ Muscat of Lemnos. This sweet wine will cap off just about any meal – something to sip on after gyros? You bet.

4. Anthony Bourdain + a Negroni

Before he was Anthony Bourdain, he was Tony, as featured in the biographical, coming-of-age dramedy based on the life of the celebrity chef, travel documentarian and author. Haven’t seen it? You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll have a great time. If dressing as Tony is on your 2026 Halloween bingo card, you’ll need a white chef’s jacket (if it’s got a few stains on it, even better) and a white waist apron. Props? An oyster shell and shucker, a cigarette and a tea towel.

Because it’s Anthony Bourdain, the drink has to be a Negroni – he was known to whip up the classic aperitivo for his crew while on the road. A Negroni is an equal parts cocktail; you’ll need 25mL of gin – we love Tanqueray – 25mL of bitter red liqueur like Campari and 25mL of sweet vermouth (think Fot Li). Add everything to a mixing glass with ice and stir, then strain into a glass over a large block of ice. Tony would be proud.

5. Hilary Duff + a pinot grigio

Hilary Duff has been having a year. She released her sixth studio album, luck... or something, and kicked off her Lucky Me world tour – her first global headline tour in almost 20 years. So, yes, you could grab your bestie and go with a Halloween classic: Lizzie and Isabella from The Lizzie McGuire Movie, but an even better option is to go as Hilary from the Lucky Me tour. Our outfit pick? Embrace the renaissance of jeans and a nice top – a pair of blue jeans and two or three pink feather boas will do the trick. Otherwise, if you consider yourself an arts and crafts whiz, it’s not too late to get started on the iconic glow-in-the-dark star dress designed by Kelsey Randall.

The drink of the night should be one of two things – either an extremely Dirty Vodka Martini or a pinot grigio (never a chardonnay, FYI). We’re going with a very portable pinot grigio – the bagnum from Tread Softly. Think flavours of lemon, pear and apple. The best news? Not only can you carry the bagnum to and from the party, but there’s 1.5L in this accessory, which means you can share it with all your mates.

6. Dua Lipa on holiday + a Pickletini

Is anyone in the world happier than Dua Lipa on holiday? We think not. She’s the internet’s Vacanza Queen, and no one knows how to holiday quite like the ‘Training Season’ singer. So, grab a bikini, a surfboard and a camera, and consider your costume sorted – just be sure to upload 17 to 20 photos in an Insta post to celebrate.

Now, we know Dua sent the internet into a frenzy with her ‘dirty Diet Coke’, which is complete with pickle juice and pickles, jalapeño juice and a few jalapeños, so we think she’ll absolutely love our Pickletini cocktail. All you need is three ingredients – pickle juice, dry vermouth (like Noilly Prat) and vodka. And we’re kicking things up a notch with Absolut Tabasco – a collaboration between Absolut and TABASCO to create a chilli pepper flavoured vodka (it’s also great in another classic holiday cocktail – the Bloody Mary).

7. Cathy and Heathcliff + Margot’s gin or QLD lager

Love it or hate it, Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights took over the big screen just in time for Valentine’s Day. The press tour took over our phone screens, and Charli’s album took over our speakers. We reckon Cathy and Heathcliff make the perfect couple costume. Cathy’s look calls for ribbon-laced braids, a peasant blouse with a corset and a floor-length skirt. For Heathcliff’s grand return look, you need a black coat, waistcoat, white shirt and cravat, and if you want to go the full Heathcliff, a gold tooth cap.

Cathy’s drink is, of course, the Papa Salt Grapefruit Gin Spritz, which comes from Margot’s gin company she founded in 2023 with her husband Tom Ackerley and four friends, and it comes in this ready-to-crack can for a perfect Halloween BYO. Expect citrus, ginger, rosemary, coastal botanicals and a kick of ginger. And for Jacob, it has to be a Balter for the boy from Brissy. The Queensland-made Cerveza is a Mexican-style lager with subtle citrus, a hint of sweetness and a slight bitterness.

8. A tree from Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show + a Piña Colada

Bad Bunny, AKA the King of Latin Trap, made history as the first male Latin solo headliner for the Super Bowl in February. There were plenty of special guests, too, from his duet with Lady Gaga to a surprise performance by Ricky Martin, and appearances by Cardi B, Pedro Pascal, Jessica Alba and Los Pleneros de la Cresta. In addition, hundreds of performers were dressed as moving trees, sugarcane stalks and bushes to recreate Puerto Rico’s landscape, which we think is a pretty iconic Halloween costume. The trees were made of synthetic grass – more than 241km of grass was used, which is longer than Puerto Rico end to end. To recreate the landscape genius, you’ll need a green tracksuit, gloves and goggles. The synthetic grass was velcroed onto a tunic and then a backpack to hold even more grass.

And the drink to match? It’s obviously the Puerto Rican-born, crowd-pleasing Piña Colada. You’ll need spiced rum (we’re using Sailor Jerry), coconut cream, condensed milk, pineapple and lime juice, and Angostura bitters.
