From Pasito to the Pornstar Martini, passionfruit drinks go hard. Those sweet, tropical flavours are hard not to like, delivering summer vibes all year. So, we’re pretty happy that passionfruit drinks are trending right now, and there’s no bigger sign that it’s having a moment than when Hard Rated joins the party.  

The new Hard Rated Orange Passionfruit is one of many passionfruit drinks right now, adding to a choice of other premixes, seltzers, ciders, Spritzes and even wine. And while it’s hard to top a well-made passionfruit cocktail, we don’t always have the time or ingredients to do them justice, which makes these premixed passionfruit-flavoured drinks the perfect picks.

With that in mind, we’ve put the spotlight on our favourite grab-and-go passionfruit drinks, headlined by that exciting newcomer.

1. Hard Rated Orange Passionfruit

When Hard Rated hit the market, it made a whole lot of sense to us. It’s all about fresh lemon flavours, thanks to real lemon juice, that gives us boozy pub-squash vibes. The fact that Hard Rated is now on tap at plenty of our favourite bars has solidified its place as a modern classic. They’ve kept the hits coming, too, with other flavours like Orange and Lemon Lime, but it’s the new Orange Passionfruit that has us properly excited. It’s got that zesty orange tang, tropical passionfruit flavours, and just enough sweetness to keep us coming back for more. Oh, and it’s zero sugar, too. Fair to say this is going to feature heavily in our summer rotation.

2. Rainbird Seltzer Passionfruit 6%

Seltzers have always had refreshment on their side – after all, they’re the alcoholic equivalent of flavoured sparkling water. The best ones, like this beauty from Rainbird, balance all the crisp, bubbly and fresh notes we want in a seltzer while still tingling our taste buds. Here, you get a mellow hit of passionfruit flavour in a drink that is dry, refreshing and less than 1% sugar. We’re calling this the ultimate esky filler, especially for summer scorchers.

3. Brookvale Union Vodka Passionfruit

Brookvale Union can do no wrong – which makes sense, considering this brand is the sweeter half of legendary craft brewery 4 Pines. So far, we’ve been enamoured with those Brookvale Ginger Beers and Red Pub Sodas, but this can of Vodka Passionfruit can’t be overlooked. It starts with real passionfruit and ends as a nostalgic, alcoholic nod to everyone’s favourite old-school passionfruit soft drinks. Served over ice with a little squeeze of lime is best.

4. Calabria Belena Passionfruit Spritz

Can any cocktail unseat the Spritz as the undisputed champion? It certainly doesn’t look like it – especially when killer Spritzes are coming ready-made like this zippy, tropical version from Calabria. With this bottled Spritz, the long-running Aussie family winery leans into the sweeter side of things, putting tropical passionfruit flavours upfront with plenty of easy-drinking sparkling wine to hold it all together. Just add a few cheeky garnishes (a mint spring or a few slices of fruit are always good), and no one will ever know you didn’t whip it up yourself.

5. UDL Vodka & Passionfruit

When we talk about nostalgic drinks, nothing can touch UDL. By now, generations of Aussies have cracked these sweet, fruity cans and we’ve been debating the best flavour ever since. For us, it has to be Vodka & Passionfruit, which dials up that tropical flavour to electric proportions. May these grace the house parties of future generations for years to come.

6. Kopparberg Apple & Passionfruit Cider

There was a time when Swedish cider was on top of the world and while seltzers and premix sodas might have tried to muscle in, we still have a soft spot for these Scandinavian drinks. This one from Kopparberg starts with a sweet and crisp apple cider and gets loaded with tropical passionfruit flavours. It is ideal for cider lovers who are keen to broaden their horizons a little, while all those crisp and zesty flavours would make this a ripping partner for a cheese board.

7. Patisserie Passionfruit Friand Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon blanc is already packed with tropical fruit flavours, so adding some extra passionfruit to the mix is actually genius. Here, Patisserie uses a zippy sauvignon blanc as the base and adds passionfruit notes to try and capture the flavours of a tropical friand – a type of French almond cake that usually comes filled with fruit. Honestly, if you’re seeking a wine to match an afternoon tea of cakes and pastries, this is the perfect choice.

8. Suntory -196 Double Lemon & Passionfruit

Suntory really knocked it out of the park with its -196 range of vodka, shochu and soda premix cans. The brand uses something they call ‘freeze crush technology’ to extract fruit flavour and, while we’re not sure what that actually involves (it ‘freezes and crushes real fruit’, apparently), it’s clearly working. Yes, the original Double Lemon flavour is everywhere, but make some space in the fridge for this Double Lemon & Passionfruit, which takes all the zingy citrus of the OG and adds sweet passionfruit to the mix. This is a great match for salty, crispy Japanese starters like chicken karaage or tempura.
