Dan’s Daily

From a killer chardy to a canned Espresso Martini, this month’s My Dan’s offers are fire.

Winter is coming, and with it the ever-familiar, ever-irresistible urge to lock yourself away (ideally with some mates) and get some proper relaxation in – far away from the social pressure of, you know, having to do things. Of course, a good drink is essential in this anti-endeavour, and with cozzie livs now sadly an all-too-established part of the lexicon, finding a great deal on your next bottle feels like an even bigger win.

As such, here at Dan’s Daily, we’ve decided to put together a recurring series highlighting the very best drinks deals that My Dan’s members can score simply by virtue of being a free member. And this June, the offers up for grabs have never been more alluring. Here, then, are 11 of the juiciest My Dan’s offers this month, hand-selected by our Editor.

1. L'Artisan Le Chardonnay

The so-called “Legend of Languedoc”, Jean Claude Mas, has created a miniature French wine empire in recent decades. After inheriting 35 hectares of vineyards from his father, he’s since expanded to create a portfolio that now encompasses more than 850, producing some of the best value wine your money can buy. L’Artisan Le Chardonnay is produced from organic vines with minimal intervention, delivering the elegance and downright yumminess we want to see in a French chardy. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity, it tastes like juicy rockmelon and stone fruits. A worthy bottle at sticker price, but on offer it’s a slam dunk.

Non-member price: $19.99
Member Price: $12

2. Paul Jaboulet Aîné Côtes du Rhône Villages Organic

If you have a hard time reading French wine labels, here’s all you need to know about this: it’s bloody delicious. Of course, if you’d like to know a little more it’s worth flagging that Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the Rhône Valley’s most esteemed producers. This certified organic wine hails from the picture-perfect south. A blend of grenache, mouvèdre, carignan and syrah grapes, the result is a fabulous red that tastes like plummy dark fruit and black olives. Plonk this on the dinner table and await your praise.

3. Albert Lebrun Champagne Brut NV Grand Cru

If you’re sensing a theme here, yes, this is the third French wine on this list. What can we say? We’re feeling tres français this month. Albert Lebrun isn’t the household name in Australia that he is in Champagne, but that’s all the more reason to get familiar. The son of the legendary Leon Lebrun, who founded the namesake maison over 130 years ago, Albert now makes classic, independently-produced Champagne that delivers on luxury and complexity, like this tasty drop made from 100% chardonnay grapes. Currently on offer for $60, now’s the time to pop a bottle.

4. Fireball Cinnamon Flavoured Whisky

Countless winter parties have started with the signature sweet spiciness of Fireball, and there’s never been a better time to cop a bottle to restock your bar cart. You know what you’re getting here: smooth Canadian whisky paired with a big old whack of hot cinnamon that lends itself perfectly to a huge variety of cocktails. Call us suckers for nostalgia, but Fireball is back in a big way.

5. Grey Goose Essences White Peach & Rosemary

Grey Goose don’t mess with their winning formula often. So when the release of their new essences range was announced earlier this year – which dials down the strength of their signature smooth vodka and introduces a curated range of natural flavours – we were intrigued. Turns out we’ve fallen in love with the White Peach & Rosemary, which plays perfectly with soda water for an easy lower-alc spritz. (And yes, we’ve just realised this is our fourth French bottle on the list).

Non-member price: $73.99
Member Price: $55

6. 78 Degrees Sunset Gin

This baby just picked up Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards (the biggest day on a spirits writer’s calendar) for the second year running, so adding this to your cart is a no-brainer. Sunsets just hit differently with the evening chill of an Australian winter, and the Sunset Gin from 78 Degrees is just as suited to summery concoctions as it is to relaxed sips on the balcony under a pile of blankets. The gin’s distinct pink colour and added complexity comes from the rosella (a type of hibiscus), which shines alongside other Australian powerhouses like strawberry gum and bush apple.

Amaro Lucano

7. Amaro Lucano

A cocktail essential, amari are oft-underappreciated bar cart heavyweights, and Lucano is a great all-rounder with which to start your collection. The recipe has remained unchanged since the late 1800s – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Herbaceous, bitter and slightly sweet, it’s most classically served neat as a digestif, but will prove itself incredibly versatile for both the fledgling and expert mixologist. At a cool $48 this month, we’re adding several to our stockpile.

8. Archie Rose Vodka Mango Spritz with Lime and Chilli

Lorrrrrdy, these are good. Amidst the ever-growing list of award-winning gins, vodkas and even whiskies the acclaimed Archie Rose distillery is producing out of its inner city Sydney digs, they’re also quietly gaining a rep for making some of the best artisan premixes you’re ever likely to try. This vodka mango spritz (yum) with lime and chilli (yuuuum) and the distillery’s signature botanical vodka (YUUUM), is equal parts moreish, complex, and refreshing. We’re obsessed.

Cantails No. 2 Espresso Martini

9. Cantails No. 2 Espresso Martini

Pre-made Espresso Martinis are perhaps the most popular canned concoctions around, but all too often miss the mark in terms of balancing the rich bitterness of espresso with the sweetness of the other ingredients. And they almost never nail the texture. Cantails do a bang up job, using top quality vodka, cold brew coffee and natural vanilla to dish up a fan favourite with an added shot of convenience. Keep in mind these small 150mL cans have an ABV of 18% – around 2.13 standard drinks – so take it easy.

10. Bridge Road Brewers Beechworth Pale Ale Cans

A GABS Hottest 100 mainstay, Bridge Road’s iconic Beechworth Pale Ale is one of the most enduringly popular Aussie ales of the last decade, and will likely remain so for some time to come. Balancing zesty, bitter hop strains with others that bring a lighter florality to proceedings, few pale ales hit the spot quite like it. You’ll score a deal this month if you grab two. Thank us later.

11. Brookvale Union Citrusy Yuzu Ginger Beer

The world’s gone yuzu mad and you can count us well and truly on board. We already loved the Brookvale Union Ginger Beer, but we all know citrus is ginger’s best friend, so this update to the much-beloved OG gets a big yes from us. Fresh yuzu juice delivers a welcome punch of acidity and zestiness that turns this already fabulous tinny into something even more special. What a steal.
