Over the last few years Australia’s been going through a well-deserved cider revolution. A new crop of craft ciders have popped up from producers all around the country, reinvigorating cider and making it light years different to the sickly sweet versions of yesteryear. With an artisan approach and bold new flavour pairings, the humble cider has come a long way — and even landed its own day on the calendar.

March 12 is officially Aussie Craft Cider Day, an entire day dedicated to toasting Australian producers who are making some of the best craft cider in the world. To celebrate we’ve picked out a few of our faves – and no, they’re not all apple – so that you can join us in raising a glass of liquid gold.

CI-FI Cold Pressed Apple Cider 375mL Cans

Not only does this crisp apple cider have a cool pun for a name (geddit — sci-fi, but cider) but cool-ness is also an important factor in how it’s made. It’s crafted in the Barossa Valley from only the best cold pressed Australian apples to create a crisp and refreshing cider with just the right level of acidity. Rumour has it that it may or may not be made by one of South Australia’s most renowned winemakers. We don’t have the answer, but maybe you will after taking a sip.

This clever little number from Sky River is kinda like a cider-seltzer hybrid. You really get the best of both worlds: the crisp bold flavour of a cider, the refreshing soda of a seltzer, and then there’s the added bonus of passionfruit for a tropical twist. Plus, at just 96 calories and 3% carbs it makes a fantastic lighter option for any occasion.

Coldstream Victorian Apple Cider 375mL Cans

Straight from the heart of the Yarra Valley comes Coldstream’s perfectly pure cider that contains no nasty additives, powders, or sugars – just fruit. Cool fermented with Champagne yeast and then cold filtered, the cider hasn’t been shocked by heat during production and that creates a long, clean, flavoursome finish.
