7 of the best non-alcoholic sparkling wines against a pink and red background

Because switching your go-to sparkling for a bottle of zero%* shouldn’t feel like a downgrade.

It can often seem like there are too many big events in the diary to commit to cutting back on the booze. Whether it’s a birthday, hen’s party, catch-up or something else, going alcohol-free sometimes takes a back seat. But if you’re considering doing Dry July – or simply keen to reduce your intake (zebra striping, anyone?) – we have excellent news: non-alcoholic* drinks just keep getting better. There are now loads of full-flavoured zero%* beers, wines and premixes, and that’s before we mention all the spirit subs that now make quality non-alc cocktails

Keen to cut back, but still want to celebrate over a glass of bubbles? Luckily for you (and us) there are some great zero%* sparkling wines available. That’s a very good thing because there’s something special about the ritual of bubbles; popping a cork, pouring it out, making a toast and clinking glasses are some of the best moments you can share with friends. But who says it has to be alcoholic? Better than serving a round of Sprite in flutes (although who are we to judge?), non-alcoholic sparkling wines are the way forward.

To cut out the risk that can come with trying something new, we’ve rounded up six of the best non-alcoholic sparkling wines that aren’t just great subs, but tasty drops in their own right.

The Tread Softly Everything Except Zero Alcohol Prosecco gets rave reviews

1. Tread Softly Everything Except Zero Alcohol Prosecco

This fizz gets rave reviews (scroll down on its page to see for yourself), with big props for its full flavour, dry style and the fact it could be the real thing. With the alcohol gently removed from this multi-regional blend, the wine comes in at 0.5%. It’s dry, bright, fresh and crisp – in short, everything you want from prosecco. If you’re still on the fence, the Tread Softly team plants a native Australian tree for every case of wine they sell, so you’ll contribute to a great cause at the same time.

2. Freixenet Alcohol Removed Sparkling White

Freixenet has been making Cava, Spain’s famed sparkling wine, for more than 100 years, so they know what they’re doing here. Another wine with rave reviews (“I can’t believe this is non-alcoholic”), this is made in a dry style with surprising complexity for a non-alc. It’s lively and fruity with balanced acidity and freshness, making it an all-rounder for just about any occasion. The bottle also makes a pretty addition to any party or dining table. No one will ever know.

3. Grant Burge Prosecco Zero

Landing at 0% ABV, this Prosecco Zero is no afterthought; it receives the same amount of care and attention as every other wine in the Grant Burge collection. Cool-climate fruit from various regions helps to deliver a wine with notes of crisp green apple, juicy lemon and white peach. This all makes it a vibrant, refreshing pick to serve at the start of the night – with or without snacks – but it’s also a great drop to stick with throughout the evening. Bright and versatile, this is easy drinking.

4. Edenvale Alcohol Removed Sparkling Rosé

With Edenvale launching almost 20 years ago, the team has had a headstart when it comes to this non-alcoholic wine thing. Producing solely zero%* wine, Edenvale extracts the alcohol content in their wines via a careful distillation process, which ensures all the aromatics and flavours remain. All the know-how and experience shines in their sparkling rosé. With bright berry aromas and rich fruit flavours, this 0.5% example is made with fruit that comes from various regions across South Australia, and it finishes clean and bright.

5. Henkell Alcohol Free Sparkling Rosé

Another pretty-in-pink option, Henkell Alcohol Free Sparkling Rosé hits some high notes, with 100% of reviewers on its product page saying they’d recommend it to a friend (as would we). A light blush colour, this wine’s aromas are just as pretty, with red berry fruits and a hint of vanilla. Fruity and fresh, this is also a great choice for vegans. For everyone else, this fizz is a great pairing for a smoked salmon salad or prawn pasta, or share it with a bestie over a platter of your favourite cheeses.

6. Minchinbury Zero Alc Sparkling

Michinbury first made sparkling wine back in 1908, which was early days for Australian producers, so we’re stoked the team is continuing to innovate – especially as this Zero Alc Sparkling is more than a cut above. It’s an excellent option for non-drinkers as well as those who are just after a solid alcohol-free option, keeping pretty much everyone happy. Expect light, lemony and tropical notes on the nose, with a finely structured, fresh, crisp finish. Just like a sparkling wine should.

7. Altina Sparkling Sansgria

For something a little leftfield – but equally as delicious – the Altina Sparkling Sansgria (get it?) is a brilliant option. Blending de-alcoholised shiraz together with native Australian riberry, this is a distinctive 0% wine that is loaded with lively citrus notes. Complex and refreshing, you can look forward to a finish that comes with a hint of spice and vanilla notes. This is not your average sparkling red, and it even won a top gong at the International Wine and Spirits Competition Alcohol Free Awards. This can be a little harder to find, but it well and truly proves that non-alc doesn’t mean boring.
