Love a good pub makeover? The inner west is where it’s at.

Is there anything better than a great, well-loved pub? Maybe – make it a great, well-loved pub that gets the best sort of glow-up. We’re talking about the type of refurb that enhances what was already there, lifts the drinks and food offering a few notches, and doesn’t detract from any of the reasons it was so loved in the first place. That’s all easier said than done, but lately, it seems Sydney’s been getting a new crop of revived pubs done just right.

Take, for example, The Toxteth. This Glebe gem has been a trusty neighbourhood hangout for almost 100 years, and while it’s no stranger to the odd reno, its new Tocky Terrace rooftop has turned its old sports bar into a whole new enticing space complete with brilliant views. Or what about The Duke of Enmore? Long beloved, its new owners (from Odd Culture, no less) have taken all that’s great about this old pub and made it even better – a new line-up of excellent food included.

Below, we round up a handful of Sydney’s latest and greatest pub reboots, including one newbie you might mistake for an oldie that’s nailed the essentials.
