Why you stayBesk feels welcoming and familiar from the moment you step inside. While part of this can be attributed to the café-esque aesthetic of exposed brick, terrazzo flooring and indoor plants aplenty, warm bar staff play their part, too. It all adds up to an environment that’s as suited to catch-up dinners with friends, drinks with mates or a low-key meal or drink for one (though, having said that, Besk is a prospect best tackled with a group rather than solo). Bonus: the pub is directly across the road from West Leederville train station, making it a breeze to get to on public transport.
What drink to orderWhere does one begin? The double-sided A5 menu of wines by the glass and cocktails is a good place to start. Beer drinkers, meanwhile, will intently study the screens above the bar detailing the brews currently on tap. There’s a lot to try here, not least the exclusive collaborations such as a juicy chilled red made exclusively for Besk by cult Margaret River producer Si Vintners, and limited-edition beers from local breweries such as Shelter Brewing Co and Nowhereman. On the off-chance nothing on the list appeals, beers and wines from the bottle shop can be enjoyed in-house with corkage.
