The iconic Toblerone bar – that ever-popular Duty Free treat and Father’s Day special – was the inspiration behind this decadent cocktail. It’s the ultimate drink to serve in place of dessert and has creamy, nutty, chocolatey flavors. Made with ice cream, chocolate sauce, honey and three liqueurs, it’s the perfect cocktail for those who enjoy an after-dinner treat.
There’s a good chance you’ve been gifted a Toblerone chocolate at some point, or at least spied it in the supermarket with its unmissable yellow packaging. Invented in 1908 in Switzerland, Toblerone's name comes from its creator, chocolate maker Theodore Tobler, and the Italian word for honey-nougat – one of its main ingredients – torrone. Its unique pyramid shape is said to be inspired by the peak of the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Swiss Alps.
The Toblerone cocktail was first created in 2003 by aficionado Simon Difford, who originally named it the Triangular Martini. It sits alongside other popular dessert cocktails like the Grasshopper, a minty chocolatey treat, and the Mudslide, which is made with vodka, coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur.
Whip yourself up this liquid dessert next time you’re hanging for something sweet, or impress guests by serving it as your third or fourth course.
