Whistler Wines2018 Estate Shiraz
About this product
Our take on the classic Barossa Shiraz, this wine has a inky purple colour with a deep red hue. Aromas of dark plum, coffee and black pepper. The palate is rich and voluptuous, with the classic blue fruits and smooth silky tannins. This wine has great capacity to age and will continue to soften and develop more secondary fruit characters.
RECOMMENDED CELLARING
Drinking wonderfully now, but will cellar until 2030.
FRUIT SOURCE
Entirely from our Heysen Estate Vineyard, this wine is a blend of all three clones of our Shiraz- Kalimna 3C, 1654 and BVRC30. Deep loam over clay, with outcrops of quartz stone and ironstone.
WINE MAKING
Harvested as separate clones and fermented wild in old concrete fermenters. Foot stomped and basket pressed, then stored in 70% American and 30% French oak for twenty months. The individual clones are then blended together to make a more complex wine. Bottling with no fining and no filtration.
TECHNICAL DATA

As with the other shiraz across the various tiers at this address, this strives for aromatic vibrancy and sass across the palate. And achieves it: blue fruits, nori and salami are woven by a thread of peppery acidity, tying fore to aft. The mid-palate could use a little more stuffing. Just a bit. Otherwise, this is a delicious wine of aromatic complexity and textural intrigue, the 20 months in 70% American and 30% French oak righteous and just, all in service of pleasure.

A bold array of blackberries and dark plums that is swathed in dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate has a handy sense of depth and density with plenty of rich fruit flavor. Impressive. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
