He's 100 points on that!

James Suckling is a leading wine reviewer and cigar critic who specialises in European wines.

American born and educated, Suckling graduated with degrees in journalism and worked for a newspaper before taking a job for the then little-known magazine "Wine Spectator". He had already picked up an appreciation of wine from his father, and was soon to turn it into a full-blown career.

Both the new junior writer and the small magazine he joined were to go on to become among the most well respected on earth over the next few decades.

Suckling fell in love with European wines, especially those of Bordeaux, in the early 80s, and was tasked with setting up the European bureau of "Wine Spectator" in 1985, prompting a move to Paris, followed by London.

Now writing for his own website, jamessuckling.com, James is based in Italy and travels extensively to taste wines and speak at industry events around the world including working closely with many Australian writers and winemakers.

Suckling has also published a book on vintage port and in 2011 co-produced and appeared in a documentary about Cuba and its cigars.

James Suckling writes and reviews exclusively for jamessuckling.com.
