Pipan steel has bottled a number of separate clones and clonal blends from the 2015 vintage. Tasting through their differences is a fascinating experience. This Blend III “combines the 3 nebbiolo clones we have growing at Pipan Steel. It takes the structure of Clone 3 and layers the perfume of Clone 9 with the structure of Clone 7.” Depth and carry. Tangy style but leather and black cherry flavours come flecked with fennel. Beautifully balanced wine. Layers of tobacco. Refreshing acidity and the fruit to carry it. Truly varietal but no doubt reflective of site.

The colour has a slightly more youthful tint but is still light, elusive and forward, similar to its brethren, the bouquet showing some personality in a charry, smoky, dried flowers and dried herbs kind of way. There is more flavour here and it has good weight, more length and a pleasant, balanced grip. Depth and richness. It has lots of appeal and is complex, savoury, not fruity. It's the most complex and charming, the most Burgundian of this maker's 2015 wines. (This contains all three clones, 7, 9 and 10)
