Pinot Grigio is the common Italian name for the French variety Pinot Gris. It is thought to have originated from a mutation of Pinot Noir in Burgundy during the 14th century. It migrated to Alsace and later to Italy. Pinot Grigio arrived in Australia in 1832 as Pineau Gris from Burgundy, France. Include in the James Busby collection it had to wait 150 years before becoming popular with wine drinkers looking for something new.
