More reserved than previous releases. Trademark notes of violet, Asian spice and jubey aniseed, but more serious than flamboyant this time around. More judiciously applied/better integrated smoky/sawdusty oak is part of this impression. Interestingly a portion of this wine was matured in a concrete egg-shaped vessel. Retains those spicy, meaty characters for which this label is renowned.

Medium to full red colour, with the faintest tinge of purple. Earthy, mellow, developed bouquet, with vestiges of plum-skin and some greenish herbal or stemmy characters. It's a bit nondescript. In the mouth it's lean and light-on, with a hardness and lack of freshness and primary fruit. The acidity is high and there's a hollow in the mid-palate. There are a few blemishes, but the wine is a good drink with cheese.
