More reserved than previous releases. Trademark notes of violet, Asian spice and jubey aniseed, but more serious than flamboyant this time around. More judiciously applied/better integrated smoky/sawdusty oak is part of this impression. Interestingly a portion of this wine was matured in a concrete egg-shaped vessel. Retains those spicy, meaty characters for which this label is renowned.

With a return to more regular rainfall at the beginning of the 2010 vintage, Julian Castagna has seized the opportunity with both hands and released this gem. Dark berries pulse across the bouquet and palate, with fine vanillin/cedary oak, dried herbs and sweet spices. Wonderful length, primary dark fruits and vibrant acidity endure throughout the complex finish. Drinking Range 2016 – 2028
