The 2006 vintage in the 'Valley has been highly rated by many and the Coldstream Reserve manages to harness these conditions expertly. 100 matured in French oak the wine is silky and concentrated, a quintessential cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Full bodied red wines have a noticeably textural mouthfeel with bold, complex flavours. Often deeply coloured.
Dry wines have no trace of sweetness at all.

It’s pretty reductive on opening, which is a bit of a worry, but then comes Cassis, plum and chocolate with positive cinnamon spice French oak. It’s medium to full bodied, firmly tannic and concentrated with blueberry richness and a savoury black olive finish. Very good stuff but the reduction, a slight blockiness and a suggestion of cooked fruit stop me from rating it higher.
