Whereas the 1995 St. Henri is standing in the corner boring his friend with political debate, the 1996 is making shapes on the dance floor. A blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet, it has a sensual floral bouquet of crushed violets that infuse the vibrant red berry fruit. With continued ageing there is a seductive confiture aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. It has a thread of fine acidity and satisfying harmony. There is an appealing openness and generosity to the finish that is reminiscent of a classic Rioja! The 1996 St. Henri is delicious now, but shows great potential.
