Gembrook Hill wines are made by Timo Mayer and Andrew Marks. It could well be the best winemaking duo in the country - thought admittedly they have some stiff competition. I've been a fan of Gembrook Hill pinot for a number of years but this release really takes the cake. It's fabulous. Really. Filled with layers of aroma and flavour. Incredibly persistent. Stylish and substantial, elegant and complex. A rockstar pinot from the Yarra Valley. Strawberries, twigs, sweet spice, creamy oak and taut, minerally tannin.

Vines planted from 1983 at Gembrook in the Upper Yarra. Four weeks on skins including a week of cold soak, pressed to old and new French hogsheads (20% new), bottled unfined and unfiltered with low sulphur. Light cherry red. Delicate with aromas of red fruits, coriander seeds and a little musk. A gentle wine, this has a core of sweet fruit with surprising depth and structure.
