Vintage 2016

Very deep, dark, saturated purple colour which stains the glass; it has lifted floral fruit and charred-oak aroma. Blueberry and mulberry as well. The wine is immensely concentrated; raw, callow and young, and is built for the long haul. Indeed, it's way too young to approach. It will be very long-lived. (1954 planted vines at Light Pass. 64yo vines in the Light Pass district. Open fermented before being pressed into (50% new) French oak. 94 dozen. Heavy with both fruit and oak but it feels sturdy, composed and complete. Saturated plums, mint, bitumen, cedar wood and violets. A heady, sweet-fruited wine and a controlled one.
