The late Trevor Mast was the founder of Mount Langi Ghiran, and for so long its sole winemaker. Many things have changed since then, all good. Open-fermented with 65% whole bunches, 35% whole berries, pressed to French barriques, none new. The absence of new oak has not diminished it in any way, a simple recognition that Trevor Mast’s financial constraints meant little money for oak.

Very deep, intense purple/red colour. The aromas are sweetly blueberry-like and fragrantly fruity, the palate lighter than the Langi wine and very elegant, with subtle fine-grained tannins. A lacing of cedar. It’s bright and refined, almost delicate, the structure understated and the acidity, which can be high in this wine, is in harmony. The signature peppery aromas are subdued this time. A polished, ultra-modern, cool-climate shiraz.
