The Quintet varieties seemed to handle the warmer, drier, 2009 conditions better than any other variety grown at Mount Mary. In the face of adverse growing conditions the Cabernet varieties continued to excel in the Valley. The 2009 Reflexion Cabernet blend has a complex nose showing cherry, blackberry and violet. There are some spices, cigar box and earthy characters.

Full bodied red wines have a noticeably textural mouthfeel with bold, complex flavours. Often deeply coloured.
Dry wines have no trace of sweetness at all.

It took the cataclysmic 2009 vintage for Mount Mary to declassify its flagship Quintet for the first time. Discounted by $100, it's a good buy. If there's any influence of bushfire here, it's the faintest wisp of smoke. A triumph for a warm, dry vintage, and an enjoyable, if earlier drinking Quintet. Top notes of dried flowers and violets open into pure blackcurrants, juicy cassis, tobacco leaf and cigar box.
