One of the newbies to the St Hugo range. First vintage release was 2008. Matured in both French and American oak. St Hugo was always Coonawarra but this is Barossa Shiraz. Released under the Jacob’s Creek name. It’s warm, rich style. Lots of guts, bound for glory. Mint, Xmas cake, saturated plums, chocolatey oak. Feels seamless and surprisingly tannic. Surprisingly well shaped too: it does what a good wine should do, and rises/extends through the finish, rather than exhausting all its tricks up front. It’s deep and brooding. It will live for a terrifically long time.

Very deep, bright, bold red/purple colour. Rich, ripe blackberry and dark chocolate aroma, which translates perfectly onto the palate, where it's fleshy and rich, dense and very chocolaty. Full-bodied, ample, it really fills the mouth with flavour. The tannins are assertive but smooth and fleshy, and the wine has very good extract, with a long, long carry.
