An attractive medium-bodied cabernet; Coonawarra and McLaren Vale stood out in SA in this vintage, exemplified here by its obviously juicy cassis fruits, in no way obscured by any green or earthy characters. While it will live, there is a strong case for early hedonistic consumption.

Deep red/purple colour. Humus and vegetal notes rather than bright fruit. Tobacco, too. The palate is soft and smooth, gentle and balanced. It's not the fruit-forward bright, bold style we might expect, but is a triumph for the season. Coonawarra did not produce much wine at all - of any grade - in 2011. Some nice cassis on the palate, buried deep. Probably best drunk young, though.
