Inky, dense opaque colour; a massive full-bodied wine, with the black fruits, oak and tannins in remarkable balance given the age of the wine, and guaranteeing an extremely long life; 2040 may prove too conservative, but I will be long gone before that judgement can be made.

Very deep, dark, blackish red-purple colour. Black olive and sump-oily oak-led aromas. Very big and mouth-crunchingly tannic. Brutal wine: big, dense and tough, with a lack of vitality and freshness. Certainly has concentration, but it's not a wine I'd like to drink. Needs a lot of time, and even then, I'm not sure I'd enjoy it. Black plum and oak flavours, with a hard oaky tannic astringency. Clumsy wine, and it's hard to understand the pricing.
