From a single, 19 hectare vineyard planted in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The pinot noir on the site is planted to multiple clones, blended to create this wine. They've even got some shiraz (syrah) on the site, which is ambitious and interesting from Otago. Anyway, previous iterations of this wine have been enjoyed, but not reviewed. This wine popped out of a blind line-up. Light garnet coloured in the glass. Red cherry and earthy aromas. I like that the wine is more about texture, firmly planted in tannin and chalky pucker, rather than blousing out on fruitiness. It’s mouthwatering to finish, red cherry and spice flavours linger, but again, the firm, coursing spread of tannins keep the wine in check and offer a finely honed expression of Central Otago pinot noir. Great length, evolving, and will certainly cellar well. Delicious to drink now, crisp and crunchy and youthful. Impressive.
