Alongside Chateau d'Yquem, Chateau Guiraud is the only other 1st Growth Sauternes that is physically inside the sub-appellation of Sauternes itself. The wine has seen significant interst for its density, richness and unctuous nature, produced from vineyards planted to 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Fruit is harvested in tranches, sorted, and fermented in oak before being matured for up to two years in oak barrels, of which 50% are new. The reputation of Chateau Guiraud has soared since the 1980s with more sypmatico viticulture and winemaking as catalysts.
