Necessity is the mother of invention. In 1993 Tim Adams was desperately short of shiraz and cabernet so his neighbour, Fergus Mahon, sold him some grenache to tide him over. Hence The Fergus blend was born. It’s evolved over time and now includes tempranillo and malbec, dry-grown. Just starting to mellow but still boasting a mound of dark-berried flavour. No one is short-changed here. Malt, blackberry, earth, leather and mint characters put on a show of dry style and obvious substance.

Deep red/black hue with a trace of purple, the bouquet developed and sweetly jammy, with some eucalyptus and earth overtones. It seems very ripe. The palate is broad and savoury, forward-developed and lacks a little definition. A rustic wine with plenty of flavour. (Grenache, tempranillo and malbec)
