From the Coal and Derwent Valleys (Tas) and the Adelaide Hills, hand-picked and pressed to French barriques (62% new, 38% 1yo) for 8 months. The wine is so precise and tightly wound it is hard to imagine it went through 100% mlf, but at the same time, the decision to limit the amount of new oak falls neatly into place. It is developing at such a leisurely pace it is hard to visualise an end point. Gun flint, wet stone, green apple and grapefruit are among the contributors to the seamless flavour stream.

The total production of Yattarna is just 500-1000 cases, one-tenth that of Grange. A warm, low-cropping, intense and less than outstanding year in the Adelaide Hills shifted the focus of sourcing to the Coal and Derwent Valleys of Tasmania, which account for 90% of the blend. The result is a powerfulYattarna, a vintage of heightened presence, concentration and acid structure, yielding a?chardonnay?of grand cru proportions, enveloping 62% new French oak, toned with scintillating, crystalline acidity. Grapefruit and white peach and fig abound, underlined by a lemon zest acid line and supported by creamy French oak. Heightened texture, concentration and acid presence rise in unison, to compelling effect, lingering on a very long finish.
