Very noticeable new oak influence on the bouquet, with an abundance of bright red fruit, spice and a touch of sage and mint; the palate shows leather and tannin, with savoury nuances prolonging the red fruit on the finish.

This is at the full-bodied, powerful end of Hunter shiraz style, and has built up terrific complexity with its 11 years of age. The bouquet is of a basket of balsamic herbs, including a little mint, but this seems to be lessening with age - or is it that the other complexities are building around it? An outstanding Hunter shiraz of great character, balance and structure, which should go on building for another couple of decades if well cellared.
