Dark fruit, bay and spice, chocolate, aniseed – perfumed and brooding at once. Full bodied, but smooth wine, with grainy tannin and fresh acidity – quite perky even – dark chocolate and mulberry flavours. Length is good with crisp acidity ringing on the finish. I’m a way off jumping up and down crying ‘Give me more!’, perhaps more ‘Yeah, that’s pretty good.’ With time, may come together better.

The early signs for this wine were good, but, as a youngster, it always seemed that cellaring would bring out its best. Now, as of September 2021, it's fulfilling its potential. Still surprisingly youthful in colour, the flavours have mellowed, the tannins have settled and its wonderful balance, regional and varietal typicity have emerged. Cabernet cassis and Margaret River bay leaf layered with mulberries, exotic spices, a chocolate inference, and overall plummy fleshiness are just some of the highlights. Intense and long, and with a developing elegance - from ugly duckling to stylish swan, you might say.
