Late ripening and forceful of structural attributes, mataro (aka mourvedre) is a variety physiologically attuned to Barossa's turgid climate. Its phalanx of tannin and acidity serve to mitigate sweetness of fruit, while its meaty core of ferruginous tobacco and dark fruit flavours can age beautifully. This is a lighter expression, gently yet dutifully extracted, but still with a savoury spine marked by a firm tannin bite. A very nice drink
