A brooding swathe of musty dark fruits and savoury spice lift from the glass. Dark cherry, graphite, blackberry, coal, black pepper, sea salt in dark chocolate and ground coffee to start, with toasted nuts and cedar beneath. Brooding, yes, but elegant, too. A full bodied palate coats the mouth with a creamy texture wrapping around mocha, black fruits, earth, dark chocolate and cedar wood before ribbons of assertive chalky, mocha-laced tannins pull it all into line and length. There’s loads of power here, a good kick of complexity, and weighty texture. - Tom Kline, Wine Pilot, 23 September 2024

An interesting meaty/smoky/earthy bouquet with a trace of brown spices, the colour still bright and purple-tinted, while some bottle development is just beginning to show on the nose. It's full-bodied, rich and fruit-sweet at the core, with fruitcake, dark chocolate and vanilla nuances. Good concentration. Tannins are ample and supple, adding a grainy, powdery and pleasantly drying texture. (From a centenarian vineyard, at Light Pass, planted in 1919)
