The Clos Clare Cemetery Block Shiraz is from 22-year-old vines across the road from the Watervale Cemetery. The vines are really hitting their straps to produce elegant, perfumed fruit from the valleys cool micro climate. This has an attractive crimson robe with purple tints and a fragrance of sage, oregano, hyssop, chocolate and cranberry. The palate demonstrates integrated tannins with flavours of blueberries, red cherry and turmeric apparent in spades.

Deep, red/purple, youthful and bright, the bouquet spicy and sweetly berry-ish, plummy and gently herbal, essency and fruit-sweet in the mouth, with lashings of ripe fruit and supple fine-grained tannins. Big but nicely balanced and already accessible.

Fruit from a single vineyard in Watervale, matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak. There's loads of spicy blackberries, blood plum and deli meat in here, with a fine, whippy splay of tannins that create pliable shape in the mouth. Mid weight. Smart. Delicious. Classy.
