Similar fermentation and maturation techniques to Sophia (in all cases wine movement in the cellar is governed by the lunar calendar) except for 38% new barriques, 17 months maturation and no fining. I have always been utterly seduced by this beautifully composed and harmonious wine, with its gleaming blackberry and licorice, fantastic texture and structure, and faultless line and length. From a difficult vintage? Really?

The flagship wine from Craggy Range is an impressive beast. Beautifully detailed pure dark and black berry fruits are uncorked by exotic spice, pepper, veal jus, earthy notes and well-judged oak use. The super-fine, gravelly tannins provide a canvas onto which the fruit is stretched tautly, and supporting characters add the depth and detail. Long of finish, with a minerally acid line.
