Vintage 2004

Medium orange-copper colour, more tuilé than rose-pink now, thanks to age. The wine has a very aged bouquet as well; savoury in an earthy, meaty charcuterie, smoky and pastry-like way. The palate is finely-textured and creamy, the finish dry and firm with some phenolic bite, and a distinct strawberry flavour emerging as it warmed in the glass. A good and idiosyncratic style - but I would be disappointed if I'd paid $549 for it. (NB: the unusual style reflects an unusual method, with 30% still pinot noir red wine in the blend pre-tirage.) 40% chardonnay; 30% pinot noir white wine
