St Mary’s Vintage Fortified shiraz 2023 ($35/500ml). The Limestone Coast is not a region synonymous with fortifieds, but here is a wine that shows what can be done. It’s impressive. It’s a lighter style fortified but the medium weight fruit has been beautifully balanced by a bright fortifying spirit. Perfumed floral notes and lifted red frits on the nose and a finely balanced palate. Not a long ageing fortified but a most attractive wine for the medium term. Score: 93/100 Cellar: 10 years

Rich and opulent, the perfumed bouquet shows dark fruit intensity, cake spice, mixed berry compote and dried flower notes, followed by a wonderfully flavoursome palate displaying succulent fruit flavours with attractive sweetness, finishing velvety and delectable.
